Things to do in Turin as a group: ideas for friends, colleagues and families

Planning something in Turin for two people is easy. Planning it for twelve, twenty or thirty is a different job: you need an activity everyone enjoys, places that can host a big group and a way not to lose half the people between one tram and the next.

In this guide we've gathered the ideas that work best for groups, organised by type of day, with some practical tips for choosing the right one for you.

Before you choose: three questions about your group

  • How many of you are there? Under ten people almost anything works; above that, choose an activity that can be split into teams or a place designed for groups.
  • How well do you know each other? A mixed group, with people meeting for the first time, needs something that gets everyone interacting, not an activity where people stay silent.
  • What's your energy level? A family with children, a group of colleagues and a bachelor party crowd aren't looking for the same day.

Outdoors: parks and hills

Parco del Valentino, along the Po river, is the classic starting point for a group day out: room for everyone, the Borgo Medievale to visit and the riverside walk. If you feel like walking you can climb to Monte dei Cappuccini for the view over the city, or go as far as the Basilica of Superga.

The limit of outdoor activities is that, on their own, they don't create interaction: people walk in small clusters, and those who know few people stay with them. They work better combined with a shared moment, like a picnic or a game.

Indoors: museums and attractions

Turin has museums worth a day on their own: the Egyptian Museum, the National Cinema Museum inside the Mole Antonelliana, the Automobile Museum. For a group, check the conditions for group bookings and entry times in advance, as weekends can mean queues.

The same rule applies here: a museum is a great choice for a curious group, less so for a group that wants to hang out and laugh together.

In the evening: aperitivo and bars

Aperitivo in Turin is almost an institution, and for a group it's the simplest solution: pick a neighbourhood, book a table and go. San Salvario, Vanchiglia and the Quadrilatero Romano are the areas with the most venues; San Salvario has the advantage of being next to Porta Nuova station, handy for anyone coming from out of town.

With big groups, though, one venue is often not enough, and moving twenty people halfway through the night becomes quite an undertaking. It helps to know in advance where you'll go next and that the place can take you.

Playing together: the option everyone agrees on

Game-based activities, from escape rooms to scavenger hunts, are the ones that work best with mixed groups: the group splits into teams, everyone has something to do and even people who don't know anyone are collaborating within five minutes.

GoCicero brings this idea to the city: a trail of puzzles and challenges through the streets of San Salvario, with stops at partner venues and a surprise ending, built around your group and your occasion. It works from 10 people up, lasts two to three hours and costs from €10 per person. You'll find all the ideas on the page about group activities in Turin, or, if you're a group of colleagues, on the one about team building in Turin.

Practical tips for large groups

  • One meeting point. Easy to find and close to public transport: Porta Nuova and Porta Susa are the most convenient for anyone arriving by train.
  • Always book. Above ten people, even the most casual bar appreciates a heads-up.
  • One person decides. Group chats are great for collecting ideas, terrible for making decisions.
  • A clear budget. Say upfront what it costs per person: it avoids awkwardness at the end of the day.
